American Royalty is Philip and Abigail Smiley, a husband and wife music duo. A long awaited release that they’ve been working on for a number of years. We were happy to work with them on the EP design and came up with a custom typeface to tie it all together.

The Life and Times of Tim

We were asked to produce a font family for HBO’s new animated series the Life and Times of Tim. We’ve pushed around type ideas over the years and have re-cut our fair share of classical faces to fit different moulds but this would be our first proper commission in this realm. The result is a naive hand-drawn affair for a man that finds himself in increasingly awkward situations.

Nicholas wanted a straightforward and easy to use website for his post-modern shoe designs. We left the artifice to his well-crafted shoes and customised it for viewing on portable web browsers like the iPhone.

Patchwork Initiative

An initiative brought forth to create dialogue between between business and fashion, music and arts. One part of which involved a fashion show for up-and-coming designers from the RCA and Central St. Martin’s. We were asked to provide a soundtrack for the catwalk. It was a challenge to choose music that took into account the differing aesthetics of the individual designers and make it work as a whole. With some careful thought and a lot of crate digging we think we cracked it.

The State of Love at the V&A

A fictional governmental propoganda rally fronted by the rakishly clad David Piper playing a dictator to citizens living state of Love over the backdrop of a soundtrack provided by The Real Tuesday Weld. The rally was appropriately held in the Raphael room at the V&A. We designed the flag representing the state of Love. A strictly private affair between you, your other half and the state.

After years of doing art direction and set design work for other promoters and events we decided to start a night that celebrated life by reminding folks that it’s shorter than you think. Musically diverse and underground pop-up parties at novel venues around East London. Showcasing a wide selection of bands and djs that we love. We’ve done a set of events for the past two years each one larger and more ambitious than the last including our Halloween party where strict dress codes brought out some brilliant costumes. Not to mention the massive dancefloor transformed into a huge Tron-like UV light grid. We’ve gone international bringing our events to India and New York in the last few months.

All posters and flyers were screen-printed by hand with the kind use of the print works at Unit Twenty-Five.

Times Spelling Bee

Consulting for I-D Media we helped win the pitch for this project as well as formulating the functionality, gameplay and design for this educational website. The idea was to create a training tool to assist teachers and students in preparation for the national event. The launch was supported by a national ad campaign and resulted in over 500 schools registering to participate in Britain’s first Spelling Bee which will be broadcast this summer. The reach has far succeeded the original estimates to include over 100,000 registered users aged 6 - 76. The site has also been nominated for a 2009 Webby Award in the Education category.
